2 More Ways to Celebrate National Pumpkin Day
Grab pumpkins for the whole family and create something special together
October 26th is National Pumpkin Day and I am so excited! Nothing says fall like a pumpkin. There are so many things you can do with them! I’ve previously discussed baking and decorating ideas, so today let’s focus on crafts. Whether you’re 3 or 103, I promise you’ll have fun!

Enjoy Pumpkin Craft Time
It’s time to break out the markers, paint, glue and glitter! I recommend grabbing some plastic pumpkins for these, but the real deal will work just as well (they’re just heavier). There really is no wrong way to go about this. Paint a rainbow, create a bat with foam wings, draw a funny face, or make a gloopy glittery mess! Fill a craft caddy or lazy susan with everything your little ones will need and let them go to town! Before you start though, make sure to lay down lots of newspaper or a craft paper roll to make cleaning up easier. You’ll thank me later!

Carve Pumpkins into Jack
Speaking of crafts, what would this day be without the traditional jack-o-lantern? Carving pumpkins is a tradition dating back to the nineteenth century and is fun for all ages. Pull out a serrated knife, large metal spoon, and peeler and bring your ideas to life. This year skip the live flames and use LED votive candles to show off your masterpiece.
I don’t know about you, but I think I buy a new carving tool kit every year. It’s something I only use once a year, so I always lose or misplace it. Avoid this pitfall by placing the tools and LED candles in a clear storage box. Attach a label or write with a permanent marker on the front of the box and then keep in a craft area, playroom, or storage closet. Next Halloween, you’ll be able to find them! (Need help organizing your playroom and closets? Check out our organization blogs).
