Whether you are trying to eat better for the new year or looking to drop those quarantine lbs, adding a green smoothie to your arsenal of healthy habits can work wonders. Don’t be turned off by the green color, I promise this won’t taste like rabbit food. Plus, you’ll be adding a ton of vitamins and minerals to your diet without having to “chew” leafy green vegetables. Once you get the basics down, you can add whatever you want to mix it every day. There are a lot of mixed opinions out there in regard to the benefits of green juice or smoothies. Everyone is different and unique and so are our bodies. Overall, it depends upon what you put into your juice or smoothie and what type of dietary restrictions you are under. (For those watching their sugar intake, be sure to keep an eye on the amount of fruit you add.) However, for most of us, there are a lot of benefits to be gained. Green juices and smoothies are LOADED with nutrients. Raw greens are some of the healthiest things on the planet and you can increase the health benefits even more by adding flax, chia seeds, ginger and more.

If you want a juice instead of a smoothie, don’t feel the need to run out and buy a juicer on day one. You can start with your blender. Your drinks will be a little thicker, but you keep the fiber, and avoid purchasing another kitchen gadget before you figure out if this green juice thing is for you. Want your smoothie nice and thick but don’t know what to add? Try Xanthan Gum. Adding only one teaspoon does the trick.

Don’t judge the book (or the juice) by its cover – give it a try! Our postproduction manager, Abby, made a face when we brought this green juice on set for the photo shoot. We made her try it, and she was pleasantly surprised! There are so many vitamins and minerals packed into a green juice or smoothie, it is worth it to give one a try. Your body will thank you.
