Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day

The New Normal - Breakfast in Bed

With Mother’s Day coming up and most of us cooped up at home, how do we celebrate the person trying to hold it all together? This year, many of us have dawned a new title, “teacher”, to an already growing list. As moms throughout the world are working from home, trying to take care of their children and keeping the household running, we salute you! This has been a tough year on all of us and it’s only May…

Since most of us are under stay-at-home orders or still not wanting to go out and be around people, why not bring Mother’s Day brunch home? You don’t need much to show our moms how much we love and appreciate them. Well, I mean I would love a huge diamond from my hubby right about now, but pick your battles, right?

Breakfast in Bed

Let mom take a load off this morning. You don’t have to make anything fancy, don’t worry if you can’t cook – a bowl of her favorite cereal and a hot cup of coffee are perfect! If you’re more on the culinary side, eggs, toast, hash browns or pancakes are simple to make. Check out our recipe below for some simple pancakes anybody can make.

Now, whatever option you choose, presentation is key! Start with a tray to hold all of your creations on. This way you can present it to her in bed or on the couch! Place everything you made on the tray, add a beverage of choice, and for a final touch go outside and pick a pretty flower! Make sure the kiddos have an adult with them to pick out the flower – trust me on this one.

Homemade Gifts

Options might be limited this time of year but that doesn’t mean you still can’t make a meaningful gift that moms will love!

  • Homemade Cards - Get out the crayons and paper and get creative. Draw a picture, write a poem, or just let your mom know how much you love her. The best part? There is no right or wrong here, just be as creative as possible.
  • Coupons - Time to bring out this oldie but goodie. I’m sure moms across the country have been doing mounds of dishes, laundry, cooking, cleaning, moderator of fights, teacher, etc. and need a break. Make several coupons for your mom and let her know you are willing to lend an extra hand.
  • Gather Up Nature - Since we have been stuck at home, we are now appreciating the little things in life. Go on a nature walk in your backyard and gather pretty flowers, rocks, leaves, or anything you find. Place all items in a canister and then decorate the canister. You can paint them, add stickers, or color on them. Make them as unique as you are!

Clean Up!

No matter what you do for Mother’s Day, make sure to clean up your mess. Help out for the day and make sure you let your mom know how much you love her!

Take a few minutes and enjoy some fun facts about this holiday.
