As the weather grows colder, it can be increasingly more tempting to bundle up, stay inside, and hibernate until spring. As cozy as that sounds, we all get a little cabin fever at one point or another. Instead of hunkering down indoors for months on end, why not explore some new activities that make you actually want to get out of the house this time of year?

In the midst of a pandemic, we are all looking for more ideas of how to stay entertained at home or nearby. So, let’s avoid hibernation this fall season and engage in some fun activities instead!

Here is some fun, cheap ways to keep busy this fall season:

For the kids – Scavenger hunt!

This is a great way to get your kids outside after school and on the weekends. Make a list of relatively common outside items – pinecones, colored leaves, acorns, rocks. Whoever finds the most items first, or all of the items, wins a prize! Use these mDesign baskets to separate the items and serve as the drop-off point for different items that are found! No matter what time of year, getting outside for some exercise is always important. Nothing quite beats the crisp, fall air and perfect temperatures for a brisk hike with the family. Explore some local trails, you might even find a new go-to spot!

Do a fall photoshoot

This can be enjoyed alone with the help of a self-timer on your phone or camera, with your partner for some frame-worthy couple’s photos, or as a family, because you can never have too many family photos! Fall is the perfect time for photos. The colors, the overcast skies, and the cute outfits that fall allows! Take advantage of it, get outside, and make some memories you can look back on for years to come! Fall crafts

There are tons of fun fall crafts for all ages that are just a quick Google search away. One of my favorite ideas for fall this year is glitter pumpkins! Fun tip – have some warm apple cider while crafting to give it an extra fall feel!

Buy some faux pumpkins from Amazon or purchase them from a local craft or décor store. Grab a craft caddy with some tacky glue, glitter of your choice, small paint brushes, and lay down some newspaper for easy clean up. Apply tacky glue with paintbrushes onto pumpkins. You can make a design, write a word, or cover the entire pumpkin! Get creative! Then, drizzle the glitter over your pumpkin anywhere you’ve applied the glue. Make sure to shake and tap off your pumpkin to get off any access glitter. Allow to dry and you have your very own glitter pumpkins! Perfect décor that you can use in the future every autumn!

Create your own Trick-or-Treat carts!

With COVID-19 still very much around, trick or treating is likely going to be a different scene this year. While we don’t want to abolish the tradition altogether, there are safe ways to still achieve the same excitement for our little monsters.

Try a cart, such as this one from mDesign. Add a bowl of treats on the top shelf, surrounded by some fall, or spooky, décor! Add different kinds of treats on each level and leave this out on your front porch for families and children to safely grab their treat!
