National Women’s Health Day

Take some time for yourself this National Women’s Health Day, You Deserve It!

2020 has been confusing, isolating, tiring and all sorts of other things to say the least. Many moms have had to add to their resume -teacher, personal stylist, SAHM, working from home expert – and I’m guessing taking time for yourself wasn’t even on that list. Same. As you debated to send your kids to school or keep them home, your personal health and wellness has been on the back burner.

This year, I am encouraging all women to celebrate this day and take some time for themselves. This doesn’t mean that you have to give up 8 hours a day. Even small things can attribute to your health and wellness. Here at mDesign, we take this seriously, we even built and on-site gym for our employees – if we ever get back to the office! But it’s not only working out that is important, it’s self-talk, what we eat, how we act, etc.

Feel like you don’t have time for this? Yeah, me neither. But there are some small steps you can take to help with your routine.

Mental Health

Something simple you can do is start and end your day on a positive note. No need to spend a ton of time on this and you can do it while you lay in bed scrolling through your phone. Just a simple – “Today is going to be a good day” – is all you need. If you’re more of a writer, write down your goals for the day in a journal. Keep it nearby on your nightstand. No room for a nightstand? Check out these compact nightstands that fight even in the smallest of rooms!

Eating Better

Ahhh, the daunting task of eating healthier. I have all this time at home, yet I choose junk food instead of healthy food. Stress eat, much? It might be because I only buy junk food, but that is neither here nor there… Buying fresh fruits and veggies may seem daunting but keeping them visible and accessible is the key to eating healthier. After you do your bring grocery haul or have it delivered – we’re lookin’ at you Instacart – wash your haul so they are ready to eat.

Keep fresh produce out in these 3-tiered baskets. Organize by color and it will add a nice pop to your kitchen.

Worried about your kids? Are their endlessly snacking stomachs going to put a dent in your bank account? Mine, too. Put some healthy options ready to go in the fridge and pantry. I use a rotating lazy susan to organize those pre-packaged snacks in my pantry or a handy caddy for on-the-go snacks. In the fridge, use clear, plastic bins to create “healthier” options for little ones to nibble on.

Exercising

Ugh – I.Hate.Exercising. But everything you read says it helps with your mental state. Personally, a bottle of wine and cookies help with mine, but to each their own. Moving on. Experts say that 30 minutes of movement a day keeps the doctor away. So, get up and get moving. Now that we have been home, you might be working out at home more. I hate the thought of all my exercise equipment laying around so I used a 3-tierd storage cart to help keep all my items together. In my kitchen, I used a beverage holder to make sure all my water bottles are stored together, and I don’t spend 20 minutes looking for the cap.

Well, there ya have it. Some quick tips to help you focus on you. I know it’s hard but we all need a little time for ourselves besides the 10 minute shower in the morning.
