Create the Ultimate Backyard Picnic

Create the Ultimate Backyard Picnic

With the weather taking a turn for the better, take dinner outside with these tips!

With all the staying at home orders and slowly re-opening the US, are you in need of a break from the same ol’ same ol’? Why not create an ultimate backyard picnic. With the weather getting nicer and the urge to get out more, this is the perfect timing. Plus, it will help your family not feel like it is groundhog’s day again!

There is nothing fancy needed to create an amazing picnic, just some small things and a little imagination.

Gathering Supplies

You’ll need a big blanket, or several, depending on what you have at home, and some pillows to sit on. If you really want to get fancy you can bring out chairs or a picnic table, but it’s not necessary!

Next, you’ll need utensils and napkins. Try putting all your cutlery needs in a handy tote to make it easy to transport outside. You can also use these to put all your condiments in, too!

Add some fun to your picnic by putting a tub outside filled with all your family’s favorite drinks. Now might be the time to bring out those specialty drinks like chocolate milk or juice! And don’t forget to add your favorite adult beverage to the mix! Don’t let the kids have all the fun!

Finally, think about lighting. If you are doing this early enough there is no need, but if you think it will last until it gets dark – and I hope it does – you’ll want to think about adding some lighting. Bring out flashlights or fake candles to add in some ambience. Or, if you have the room, have a bonfire next to your picnic. Plus, you’ll be able to use that to make smores later!

Preparing the Food

Since you have all of your supplies together, it’s time to think of food. There are three options for this.

  1. You can make simple things like sandwiches, potato salad, and chips (or Goldfish if you are my daughter).
  2. You can opt for campfire food if you have one. Make hotdogs or hamburgers or pie-iron sandwiches.
  3. Tired of cooking? Order pizza and call it a day. There is nothing, and I mean nothing, wrong with that!

If you do go the route of making your own food – try putting all items on a tray to help you carry the food out. Plus, it will help with the clean up!
