National Legging and Scarf Day!

National Legging and Scarf Day!

Two of your favorite wardrobe pieces and how to organize them

Since we have all been stuck at home, leggings have become the new work pants. To be honest, they have always been my preferred work pants, now it’s just OK to wear them “at work”! I’m not saying I’m happy about the pandemic, but I am happy about this perk. One good thing, right? Well, did you know that there is actually a national holiday celebrating leggings and scarves? Not only is the duo a go-to outfit of mine, it’s the perfect fall accessory (next to the facemask, of course).

Bonus? If you don’t have your facemask with you, simply pull your scarf up around your mouth and nose and voila – instant face covering!

As the weather starts to turn to winter and believe me, I know a thing or two about winters being in the snowbelt in Ohio, you start to wear a myriad of winter accessories. What’s worse than temps in the negatives and sketchy driving conditions for months at a time? Having an abundance of scarfs and leggings all in a bunch and disorganized.

While you start dreading the upcoming colder season, let’s take some time to start organizing your favorite accessories!

For anybody that has more than one pair of leggings, using a hanging accessory holder is a must. This bad boy has a slim profile so you can hang up your leggings and scarves in an organized fashion in plain sight. Before I used this, most of my stuff would go to the bottom of a drawer, I would forget it’s there and then six months later find it a few seasons too late. Oh, the tragedy.

If you do want to keep leggings and accessories in a dresser drawer, trying using these clear drawer organizers to get a sharp and organized look. You'll never lose sight of things again!

Standing coat racks are a smart option, especially when dealing with winter scarves that are likely to be damp from the snow. mDesign’s metal coat rack is 67” tall and has eight rotating hooks to hold your winter attire. Coats, hats, scarves, you name it! Your items will be dry by the morning and the coat rack fits in the corner nicely, just enough out of the way to not be a nuisance but in the open enough to quickly grab items on your way out the door.

If you do have built-in shelving and cubbies, then you’re going to love this idea. Sure, you could fold your scarves up into neat little piles or carefully place your gloves and mittens in a cubby hole when you’re finished warming your digits for the day. Let’s be real though: after a few days of pulling those items in and out, you’re not always going to have the time or patience to put them back ever-so-neatly into the cubby holes.

So, let’s place them – folded or messily – into some trendy baskets! These fabric storage baskets from mDesign go great in any home and slide effortlessly into your existing shelving. Toss mittens/gloves, scarves, wool socks, etc. into the baskets to hide them away when not in use, but they are easy to grab when in a hurry. The baskets also come in a natural seagrass woven material if you’re looking to coordinate with your decor!

Baskets work great in your closet, too, for those leggings. You can organize them by workout, everyday wear, color, patterns, you choose!
