Awesome Ideas for Autumn Get Togethers

Fun Fall Party Activities

Autumn entertaining is a great way to incorporate elements of the season’s two biggest reasons to get together: Halloween and Thanksgiving. Check out these festive fall party ideas to find the right mix of spooky fun and heartfelt gratitude for your autumn gathering.

Backyard Bonfire

Backyard bonfires let you enjoy the outdoors when the temperatures drop and the weather gets chillier. Whether you prefer the stacked wood of an old-fashioned campfire or the modern convenience of a portable fire pit or chiminea, a blazing fire makes a cozy focal point for an evening of autumn entertaining. Dust off your storytelling skills and scare up some fun with classic spooky campfire stories like “The Vanishing Hitchhiker,” “The Yellow Ribbon,” and “The Hook.”

S’mores Station

Update the campfire treat you loved as a kid with twists of flavor that’ll delight your adult palate.

Set up a S’Mores Station with mDesign’s Natural Bamboo Storage Shelf. Once you’ve gathered your graham crackers, marshmallows, and chocolate bars, use the shelf to hold dipping bowls. Put a mix of smoky paprika and chili powder (cayenne pepper if you can stand the heat!) in a bowl. Dip gooey, toasted marshmallows in the spicy mix and turn regular s’mores into hot chili S’mores— the taste will remind you of the spicy, sweet blend of flavors in Mexican hot chocolate. You can also offer bowls of shredded coconut and caramel sauce to make s’mores that taste like Samoas®, the classic Girl Scout cookie.

Pair your s’mores with the perfect wine. Store bottles near the s’mores station in mDesign’s Tabletop Wine Chiller — pair the hot chili s’mores with a Riesling or Moscato and the caramel coconut s’mores with a dry chardonnay or an oak-aged red wine, like a cabernet sauvignon.

Autumn Karaoke

Karaoke used to mean trekking to a dive bar or investing in a pricey karaoke machine. Now all you need to make karaoke memories is a smart phone and a great bunch of friends. Download apps like KaraFun or Karaoke Mode and have a D.I.Y. karaoke competition at your fall fête.

Choose your favorite fall-themed songs — here’s a list for inspiration:

  • “Autumn Leaves,” Leslie Odom Jr.
  • “California Dreaming,” The Mamas and the Papas
  • “September,” Earth, Wind, and Fire
  • “October Sky,” Yebba
  • “Sweater Weather,” The Neighbourhood
  • “November,” Tom Waits
  • “Wake Me Up When September Ends,” Green Day
  • “November Rain,” Guns and Roses
  • “Moondance,” Van Morrison
  • “I Put a Spell on You,” Bette Midler, from the movie “Hocus Pocus”

Keep your karaoke audience comfy with mDesign’s Adjustable Floor Folding Chairs. Adjustable, lightweight, and easy to carry, these chairs add extra seating wherever you set your stage.

Competitive Pumpkin Carving

“Competitive” is a bit of a misnomer; the only contest will be to see who has the most fun carving their pumpkin! Cover your picnic table with newspaper and station a trash can nearby (we like mDesign’s 45L Step Trash Can) to contain the mess. Give each contestant an apron, a towel, and a choice of stencils to design their pumpkin’s face. Set up a gallery of winning pumpkins on your porch or patio!

Cider Flight

Skip beer and whiskey and treat your friends to a cider tasting. Use a tray, like mDesign’s Kitchen Accessory Organizer with handles and several compartments. Place a shot glass of a different cider in each section. There are so many ciders to choose from—fruit, spiced, hopped, and rosé —each flight can offer a different combo of tastes. Grab a charcuterie board and add savory counterpoints to your cider sampling’s flavor —tastes like Camembert cheese, prosciutto, and Bing cherries.

There you have it: autumn entertaining ideas to help you segue from the whimsy of summer get-togethers to the warmth of cozy, winter gatherings. So, go ahead — take some time to celebrate all the things that make fall fun!
